Louisiana 24 Hour Booking Through LAVNS

The Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System, known as LAVNS, is the most used tool for finding 24 hour booking records across the state. Most parishes tie into this system. It lets you search by name, location, or case number. The system is free and open to the public as jail records.

LAVNS runs through VINELink, a nationwide platform that covers 48 states and more than 2,900 facilities. You can sign up for custody alerts by email, text, phone, or through the VINELink mobile app. The phone line at 1-866-528-6748 is open around the clock and supports over 200 languages. Under La. R.S. 44:1, booking records are public records in Louisiana. That means any person can look them up. You do not need to give a reason for your booking search.

The DPS&C also runs an offender locator for inmates in state custody. You can reach it at the DPS&C offender information page or call (225) 383-4580. This booking tool updates every 24 hours and shows housing assignment, facility address, and projected release date. You need the inmate's DPS&C number or their name and date of birth to use it.

The DPS&C site puts it this way: "Family and friends of people assigned to the custody of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections can locate the inmate by searching on the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System. This site is updated every 24 hours and makes it easy to search by location, name, and ID/case number."

How to Search 24 Hour Booking in Louisiana

There are several ways to look up 24 hour booking records in Louisiana. The method you pick depends on which parish you need. Some parishes have full online search portals. Others only take phone calls. A few use third-party jail management tools like JADES, 365Labs, or Zuercher Portal. Each parish sheriff runs its own jail, so the setup can vary quite a bit from one place to the next.

For a statewide search, start with VINELink. Go to the booking site, pick Louisiana, and search by name. Results show current inmates along with their custody status and facility. You can also call the LAVNS hotline at 1-866-528-6748 for the same info by phone.

Parishes with their own custom booking portals include Jefferson Parish, which runs an online inmate search through the JPSO. Lafayette Parish switched to 365Labs after dropping the old JADES system. Lafourche Parish uses the Zuercher Portal. Rapides Parish has a NewWorld Inmate Inquiry tool. These portals show booking photos, charges, bond amounts, and more.

To look up a 24 hour booking record, you typically need:

  • Full name of the inmate (first and last)
  • The parish where the arrest took place
  • Booking number if you have it
  • Date of birth for more exact results

Most online rosters are free. No account is needed for basic lookups. Some portals like the Calcasieu Parish inmate roster at cpso.com update every hour. Others refresh once a day.

Louisiana State Police and Booking Records

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information runs the jail and Louisiana Computerized Criminal History system, called LACCH. This database holds arrest records, case dispositions, and incarceration data for the whole state. It is important to know that Louisiana is a closed record state under La. R.S. 15:587. That means LACCH records are not open to the general public.

The State Police describe it this way: "The Louisiana Computerized Criminal History system is maintained by the Louisiana State Police, Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information. LACCH contains arrests, dispositions of the arrests, Probation and Parole bookings and incarceration information on individuals who have been arrested in the state of Louisiana."

Even though LACCH is closed, 24 hour booking rosters published by parish sheriffs are still public. Under La. R.S. 44:1, booking records fall under public records law covering bookings. The difference is that a sheriff's jail roster shows current inmates and recent bookings, while LACCH is a full criminal history database. You can get your own LACCH record through a Right to Review request under La. R.S. 15:588. That costs $26 per record, plus a $5 technology fee added in December 2024.

DPS&C Offender Locator for Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections runs a separate search tool for inmates in state prison. This is not the same as a 24 hour booking roster, but it helps when an inmate has been moved from a parish jail to a state facility.

You can search the DPS&C offender locator online or call (225) 383-4580. The booking system shows where an offender is housed, the facility phone number, and a projected release date when one exists. You need the inmate's DPS&C number, or their full name and date of birth. The DPS&C public records page also handles formal booking records requests. You can email them at docpublicrecords@la.gov or write to P.O. Box 94304, Baton Rouge, LA 70804.

Are 24 Hour Booking Records Public in Louisiana

Yes. Louisiana treats booking records as public records. La. R.S. 44:1 says that all records of the booking of an inmate under Code of Criminal Procedure Article 228 are public. Anyone can ask to see them. You do not need to be a victim or a family member. You do not need to state why you want the records.

There are some limits. La. R.S. 44:3 lists exemptions for records tied to pending criminal cases, confidential sources, and security procedures. Juvenile records are sealed under Louisiana Children's Code Article 412. Expunged records under La. C.Cr.P. Art. 971 are not destroyed but are made confidential and can only be seen by law enforcement and certain boards. Agencies have up to 5 business days to respond to a records request. You can look at records for free during business hours. Record booking copies cost between $0.25 and $1.00 per record page at most offices.

What Louisiana Booking Records Show

A typical 24 hour booking record in Louisiana shows the inmate's full name, booking number, and booking date with the exact time. Charges are listed with their statute references. Bond amounts appear next to each charge or as a total. Some rosters include a booking photo.

Here is what a standard Louisiana booking entry looks like in the booking data. The Allen Parish Sheriff's Office roster, for instance, displays entries with a booking number in the format YY followed by six digits, the booking date and time down to the minute, a full list of charges like "Schedule II Prohibited Acts" or "Operating a vehicle while intoxicated," and the total bond amount. Many parishes follow this same basic format. The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office even has a mobile app where you can search inmates and get booking photos right on your phone.

Records from most Louisiana parishes include:

  • Full name (last, first, middle)
  • Booking number and date
  • All charges with statute codes
  • Bond amount (total or per charge)
  • Court dates when available

All inmates listed on a booking roster are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Most parish rosters include this disclaimer.
