Louisiana Public Records Law under La. R.S. 44:1 gives you the right to get copies of most booking and arrest records.

The city does charge fees for copies. Prices depend on the type and size of the record you ask for. Local governments in Louisiana can set their own booking copy fees as long as they stay reasonable under the law.

Booking Record Laws in Alexandria

Louisiana law treats booking records as public records. Under La. R.S. 44:1, the booking of an inmate per Code of Criminal Procedure Article 228 creates a public record. This means you can ask for and get copies of booking data from the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office or from the Alexandria Police Department. There are some limits, though.

La. R.S. 44:3 lists exemptions. Records tied to pending criminal cases may be partly restricted. Juvenile records are protected under Louisiana Children's Code Article 412. And La. R.S. 15:587 makes the state criminal history system a closed record, meaning only authorized agencies and individuals checking their own record can access the full LACCH database. But the booking records at the parish level are different from the state criminal history file. Local jail rosters and 24 hour booking logs stay public.

If someone gets their record expunged under La. C.Cr.P. Art. 971, the booking data becomes confidential. It does not get destroyed. Law enforcement can still see it. But public search tools will no longer show that entry.
